The student visa is if you wish to mainly study in Japan.
It is possible to enter a university, vocational college or a language school in Japan.
For a student visa to a language school, there are certain requirements that keep changing, and in recent years, become stricter.
When studying at a language school in Japan, the student visa is possible for up to 2 years, and longer if you go on to higher education in Japan afterwards.
If you also plan to travel and want more flexibility, or are a beginner to the Japanese language, the Working Holiday Visa may be a better option for you.

Minimum 6 months language course, some require 1 year minimum
Difficult to change schools or locations (valid reason and paperwork needed)
150 hours of language learning, or JLPT N5 level certification or equivalent required
